José was born in Guadalajara, Mexico. At a young age his parents Antonio and Teresa along with his younger sister Angelica moved to the United States. After some time of living in the greater Los Angeles area they moved to the Central Valley. José is a first generation Latino to graduate from college. José holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from CSU, Stanislaus & will be conferred a Masters Degree in Public Administration from his alma mater in June ‘08. José is currently working as the Director of Development for Visionary Home Builders of California Inc.; a non-profit affordable housing developer and housing counseling agency in Stockton California. He served 8 years in the U.S. Army Reserve.

José has been actively involved in many organizations and serves on numerous boards and committees, including:
